The chart has five tools for the plotting you would do with dividers and a hand-bearing compass. They live in the chart menu, so the chart keeps its space until you need them.
Pick a tool
- Open the menu. Tap Chart on the toolbar.
- Choose under Tools. Measure, EBL, VRM, Cursor or Waypoint. The toolbar button shows the tool's icon while it is on.
- Tap the chart. Each tap now uses the tool instead of opening a card.
- Go back to normal. Choose Pan in the same menu. Clear tools removes everything the tools have drawn.
Results show in a small panel at the bottom left of the chart.
What each tool does
- Measure. Tap a start, then an end. The panel shows Measure: the distance and true bearing between them. A third tap starts a new measurement.
- EBL. An electronic bearing line from the boat through the point you tap. The panel shows the bearing relative to the bow and, with a heading, the true bearing.
- VRM. A variable range ring round the boat through the point you tap. The panel shows its radius.
- Cursor. Tap a point. The panel shows Cursor, its position; From boat, its range and bearing; and Time to go, at the speed you are making toward it. Time to go only shows while you are closing the point.
- Waypoint. Each tap drops a waypoint, named WP 1, WP 2 and so on.
Without a boat position, the EBL and VRM start from the center of the chart instead of the boat.
Limits
Bearings are true. Distances are great-circle distances in nautical miles, or meters under a tenth of a mile.
