Offwind reads tracks and instrument logs from other devices and software, entirely on the phone. Imported tracks go into the Log beside your recordings. Routes and waypoints in the file go to the chart.
Import a file
- Open the Log tab in Plan and tap Import at the top.
- Choose a file… from Files.
- Read the report. Offwind recognizes the format from the file's contents, not its name, and shows what it found.
- Tap Import.
It reads GPX, FIT, TCX, KML/KMZ, CSV, Expedition, Sailsys, Velocitek, Vakaros and NMEA 2000 captures, and NMEA 0183 logs.
The report
- Format and Recognised by: what Offwind thinks the file is, and why.
- Time: how the file records time.
- Rows kept: how many of the file's rows were used, with a Withheld section that says why the rest were not.
- Track, Waypoints / routes and NMEA 2000 frames: what will be imported.
- Channels: each instrument channel, its unit, and where the unit came from.
- Warnings: anything you should know before you rely on it.
If the format is wrong, choose the right one in Read as and tap Re-read as. A plain CSV has Map columns…, where you say what each column is and its unit. A column with no unit is kept out of the analysis.
If the file cannot be imported, Import stays off and the report says why.
Line up the clock
Logging devices often keep the wrong time. Under Time, tap Align clock….
- Fixed offset sets hours, minutes and seconds with the − and + buttons. Total shows the shift. Check it against a moment you know, such as a start gun or a mark rounding.
Tap Done, then Import.
Open a file from another app
From Files, Mail, Messages or AirDrop, share or open a GPX, FIT, TCX, KML, KMZ, Velocitek, Vakaros, Actisense or CSV file with Offwind. It is imported straight away and a notice says how many points, samples, routes and waypoints it held.
Import GPX… at the top of the Log does the same for a GPX track, and shows a short report.
Limits
- Garmin plotter archives (.adm, .fsh, .img, .gdb) cannot be read. Export the tracks, waypoints and routes from the plotter as GPX to a card, and import that.
- Yacht Devices binary voyage-recorder files cannot be read. Export them from the recorder as RAW text and import that.
- An imported track is never uploaded to your account.
