The Line page is where the line comes from. Swipe to it before the start.
Ping the ends
- Pin. Sail close past the pin end and tap Ping pin as you pass it.
- Boat. Do the same at the committee boat with Ping boat.
Ping with the phone, not the bow: each ping averages the last five seconds of fixes, carried forward to the moment you tapped, and the app adds the bow offset from Setup when it measures the distance. Under the buttons it reports what it captured. Ping again to replace an end.
Read the line
- Length is the line's length.
- Square wind is the wind direction square to the line.
- Bias is how many degrees the line is off square, and how many metres the favoured end is ahead; Favoured names that end (Pin, Boat or Square).
- On the line is where along the line you are, from the pin (0 %) to the boat (100 %). Past either end, the race page's tag says PAST PIN or PAST BOAT.
Flip side swaps which side of the line is the course side, for a line set the other way round.
The wind
Bias and laylines need the wind's direction. From a wind instrument it comes in on its own; without one, tap Enter wind and type the direction the wind blows from, in degrees true.
