The race page is the start. Before the countdown it shows the sequence and Start; once you start it, the timer's buttons take their place.
Before the start
- Sequence. Tap the sequence button beside Start and choose 5-4-1-0, 3-2-1-0 or Rolling ×3.
- Start. Tap Start on the warning signal. The countdown runs, and the phone speaks it if Spoken countdown is on in Setup.
Keeping time with the committee
- Sync snaps the countdown to the signal you just heard: down to the whole minute (4:47 becomes 4:00), or up to 1:00 under a minute, so a late press at the one-minute signal can never start the race. Setup can switch it to snap to the nearest signal instead.
- +1 and −1 move every gun by a minute, for a postponement or a general recall.
- Gun says the gun is now.
- Reset clears the countdown. It loses the sequence, so it needs a press and hold.
At each signal the countdown is drawn inverted for three seconds, so a glance confirms the phone heard what you heard.
Rolling starts
With Rolling ×3, the caption reads NEXT GUN · ROLLING and a My gun button appears. Tap it when the gun you are counting down to is your start; the sequence stops rolling and the caption reads MY GUN IN.
Reading the start
Under the countdown:
- TO LINE m is the distance to the line. With a bow offset in Setup and a compass the app trusts, it is measured from the bow, and the label says BOW; otherwise from the phone, PHONE. DR means the phone is between GPS fixes and the number is dead-reckoned; a figure such as ±2 is its uncertainty in metres once it passes 1.5 m.
- SOG is your speed over ground.
- TTL is the time to the line at the speed you would sail upwind, learned from your recent upwind sailing; TTL SOG means it is using your current speed because nothing has been learned yet.
- BURN is the time you have to spare: the countdown minus the time to the line. When it goes negative it reads LATE, in red.
Over the line before the gun, the distance turns red and reads OVER THE LINE m, and burn reads OVER.
The seven cells at the top are the LED strip. Before the gun it shows time to burn by default (green to red as the margin closes); Setup can switch it to the timer or the distance instead.
