Offwind for iPhone

Night mode

Switch between Day, Night and Red with one tap, or let Offwind change to night colors at dusk by itself.

Offwind has three cockpit display modes. Day is dark ink on a light background for sunlight. Night is a dark screen that keeps your night vision. Red draws everything in shades of red for the darkest watches. The chart and every screen change together.

Switch with one tap

The display mode button is at the right of the status strip, showing the mode's name. Each tap moves to the next: Day, then Night, then Red, then back to Day.

Press and hold the button to choose any mode directly, including Automatic and Standard (web colours), which uses the website's colors.

Change at dusk by itself

To start with, the display mode is Automatic. It uses Day until the sun sets at the boat's position, then night colors, and back to Day in the morning. A small A in the corner of the button shows that Automatic is on, and the strip says Switched to Night when it changes.

Tapping the button chooses a mode yourself, which turns Automatic off. Press and hold the button and choose Automatic (Day, then night mode after dark) to turn it back on.

Two settings in Settings › Display shape what Automatic does:

  1. After dark, automatic uses. Night or Red.
  2. Night mode starts. At sunset, End of civil twilight or End of nautical twilight.

You can set both at any time. They only take effect while the display mode is Automatic.

Brightness

Night and Red brightness in Settings › Display dims the screen below the phone's own lowest setting. It starts at 75 %, the level the night colors are designed for. Turn it down further on a very dark night, as long as you can still read the chart.

Low-power display

Low-power display (Settings › Display) updates the chart once a second and stops animation, to make the battery last. A thermometer icon in the status strip shows when it is on. The strip shows the same icon when iOS Low Power Mode or the phone's temperature makes Offwind slow down.
