Drop waypoints and build a route

Put waypoints on the chart, string them into routes, and move, reverse or delete them.

Everything the phone routes or navigates to starts as a waypoint or a route on the chart. They are saved on the phone as you make them, so a restart or a flat battery loses nothing.

Drop waypoints

There are three ways:

  • From the tap card. Tap open water, then Drop waypoint.
  • With the Waypoint tool. Tap Chart on the toolbar and choose Waypoint under Tools. Every tap on the chart now drops one. Choose Pan when you are done.
  • From the Routes sheet. Tap Drop waypoints by tapping the chart, which turns the Waypoint tool on.

Waypoints are named WP 1, WP 2 and so on.

Build a route from a charted mark

Tap a buoy or light, then + Route on its card. If you are not already editing a route, this starts a new one from the boat to that mark. Tap the next mark and + Route again to add it to the end. Keep going in rounding order.

Build a route from waypoints

  1. Open the routes. Tap Chart on the toolbar, then Routes and waypoints. The sheet is called Routes.
  2. New route. Under Routes, tap New route from waypoints. It makes a route through every waypoint in the Waypoints list, in order. It needs at least two.

Each route is listed with its name, the number of waypoints and its length.

Move a waypoint

Press and hold a waypoint until it lifts, then drag it. A magnifier above your finger shows the chart under it with a crosshair, the position, and the bearing and distance from the previous waypoint. Lift your finger to drop it. A second finger, or dragging off the chart, puts it back where it was.

Loose waypoints can always be moved. To move a route's points, tap Edit on the route first, and Done when you have finished.

Reverse or delete

  • Reverse turns a route round, for the return leg. It needs a slide to confirm.
  • To delete a route or a waypoint, swipe it left and tap Delete, then slide to confirm.

Limits

On a phone the Routes sheet opens over the lower half of the chart, and the chart stays live above it. Courses for a project are chosen from these same routes. See Arm a route and navigate it.
