Offwind for iPhone

Show weather on the chart

Choose a weather layer, move through time with the time bar, and see which model and run you are looking at.

Every forecast the phone holds can be drawn on the chart: wind, pressure, waves, current and rain, whatever the downloads carry. One time bar moves all of it, and the route's boat with it.

Turn the weather on

  1. Open the panel. Tap Wx on the toolbar. With a forecast held, it opens on Layers.
  2. Show weather. Turn on Show weather.
  3. Choose a layer. Under Weather layer, tap Wind, Pressure, Waves, Current or Rain. Only the layers you hold are listed, each with the model and run that answers it.
  4. Close the panel. Tap Done. The weather stays on the chart.

Wind, waves, current and rain are shaded, and the Key section shows what each color means, in knots, meters or millimeters an hour. Pressure is drawn as labeled isobars.

The time bar

While weather shows, a slim bar runs along the bottom of the chart:

  • Play steps through the forecast times and starts again at the end. Pause stops it.
  • The scrubber. Drag anywhere on it to move the time. It snaps to the forecast's times, with a tick for each and a longer one at midnight. Over it, the day and time, for example Tue 17:00 +6 h, or now.
  • The run. Under the time, the model and run that answers that time, for example GFS 12Z, and its age once that matters.
  • The layer button. At the right, the layer shown. Tap it to switch layer, open Layers and models, or Hide weather.

When a computed route is on the chart, a dot on it shows where the routed boat is at the time on the bar.

Models and runs

Under Models and runs on the Layers tab, each layer lists the runs it is drawn from, the times it covers, and its age. An old run is marked in amber, a stale one in red, and the time bar's run line turns the same color.

The phone combines every forecast it holds: at each time, the newest run that covers it is shown. Models are never blended. Where you hold more than one model for a layer, a Model switch picks which one the chart shows.

How it looks

Under Look, Animated flow draws moving streaks with the wind or current, and Opacity sets how strongly the shading covers the chart.

Limits

The weather drawn is only what the phone holds; the bar ends where the forecast ends. On the low-power display, the animated flow turns off.
