The first time you open Offwind it asks one thing: that you read the navigation notice. There is no setup wizard, no tutorial and no tour.
The notice
The screen is headed Not for primary navigation. It says, in short, that Offwind is a tactical and planning aid; that positions, instruments, forecasts and routes can be wrong, late or missing; that you keep a proper lookout, carry official charts and navigate with approved equipment; that it is not a distress system; and that you remain responsible for the boat and crew.
Press I understand. Start at the bottom. Privacy beside it opens the privacy policy.
Where you land
Offwind opens on Projects, the first tab of the Plan side of the app. A fresh install has no projects yet, and the list says so.
Everything the notice did not ask about keeps a sensible default. Change it where it lives:
- Units are in Settings.
- The boat and its instruments are under Boat: connections, polars, devices on board and satellite hardware.
- The cockpit's pages are edited on the Helm, once you are sailing.
A note under the notice says the same, and adds the one thing to do next: plan a race or passage under Projects. See Create a project.
Signing in
You do not need an account to use projects. They are kept on the phone and work offline. Signing in (Settings › Account) lets you file a project into one on the web, which brings its boats and courses to the phone and sends your tracks back. See Plan and Sail for how the app is laid out.
