Finish a passage

One hold ends recording, navigation and sharing, and opens the project for review.

Finishing is the other half of Go sailing. One control ends everything the passage started and takes you back to Plan.

Finish

  1. Go to More. In the cockpit, press More. Finish passage is near the top, under Open Plan. The note below them names the project you are sailing.
  2. Hold. Press and hold Finish passage until it confirms. A tap alone does nothing, so it cannot be finished by a stray touch.

What Finish does

  • Stops the recording, and queues the track to upload to the web project if there is one.
  • Stops navigating.
  • Turns race rules off.
  • Stops live sharing, and tells the web project the passage has ended.
  • Opens Plan on Projects, with the project open.

If the recording will not stop, the passage keeps running and the cockpit stays up, with a banner saying why. The cockpit is where recording is shown, so it does not hide a recording that is still going.

After the passage

The project now counts as sailed. It moves to Sailed on Projects, and its screen puts the review first:

  • Tracks. The recordings made during the project's passages, with their date and number of fixes. The note under them says where they live: Kept on this device., or Uploaded to the web project when a link allows.
  • Planned versus sailed. How the track compared with the armed plan.
  • Was the forecast any good. How the forecast compared with what you sailed through.

The last two are worked out on the web project, from the armed plan and the uploaded track. Each has Open on the web. A project kept on this device only cannot show them.

The sections you prepared stay below, so you can go sailing on the same project again.

What it does not do

Finish does not delete anything. The recording stays in the Log, and the project keeps its course, boat and plan. Closing the app is not the same as finishing: see Plan and Sail for what closing does.
