Offwind for iPhone

Read trends

A Trends page plots up to four values over the last five minutes to six hours, and any field can carry a five-minute sparkline.

A number tells you where you are. A trend tells you which way it is going: whether the breeze is building, whether the last shift has come back, whether the depth is shelving. Offwind keeps each value's history while the app is open, so a trend is there when you look for it, even on a page you have only just added. Closing the app from the app switcher starts the history again.

Trends is a page kind, not part of the starting layout. Open the field editor, choose Add page and then Trends. See Add and arrange pages.

The new page plots BSP, TWS, TWD and Depth, top to bottom.

Read the plots

Each plot carries its name, the value now in large type, and its range over the span. One time axis runs under the last plot, ending at now.

  • Gaps are gaps. Where an instrument stopped reporting, the line breaks rather than joining across the missing time.
  • Wind direction is a shift. TWD is drawn left and right of its mean over the span, so a veer or a back reads directly off the plot.

Change the span

The span button is at the top right of the page, beside its name. Tap it to step through 5 min, 15 min, 30 min and 6 h. Press and hold it to pick one directly. A new page starts at 15 min.

Choose what is plotted

With the Trends page showing, open the field editor. The section headed Plots (4 of 4) lists each plot.

  1. Change one. Tap Plot 1, Plot 2 and so on to pick what it shows.
  2. Reorder. Drag a plot's row.
  3. Remove one. Use its delete button. A page keeps at least two plots.
  4. Add one. Add a plot, up to four.

Sparklines on a field

Any field can show its last five minutes as a faint line under its value. In the field editor, tap the field's row and turn on Sparkline (last 5 min). Sparklines are off to start with.
