Tap anything on the chart and a small card opens next to it. A pulsing ring marks the spot you tapped, and the card sits to one side so it never hides what it describes or the boat. It closes by itself after ten seconds, or when you tap the chart again.
One object
Tap a buoy, beacon, light or other charted object. The card shows:
- its name, or its type when it has none, with the type underneath;
- its distance and bearing from the boat;
- Charted depth, where the chart has a depth there;
- the forecast at that spot at the chart's time, when you hold weather (wind, gust, pressure and waves in one line).
Then up to three actions:
- Go to. Starts navigating straight to the object. It needs a slide to confirm, so a stray tap never changes where you are steering. It only shows when the boat has a position.
- + Route. Adds the object to the route you are editing, or starts a new route from the boat to it. See Build a route.
- Details. Opens Chart objects, the full description: everything the chart says about the object, where the data came from, and any chart notes attached to it.
Several objects
Where objects crowd together, the card says how many, for example 3 objects here, and lists them. Tap one to see its card. The app never quietly picks the nearest for you.
Open water
Tap water with nothing on it and the card reads Open water, with:
- the distance and bearing from the boat, and the position in degrees and minutes;
- Charted depth, or Depth: no chart here where no chart covers the spot;
- the forecast line, when you hold weather.
Two buttons follow. Drop waypoint puts a waypoint there. Forecast opens the full forecast for that spot. See Read the forecast at a place.
Long press
A long press on a waypoint lifts it so you can drag it. Anywhere else, a long press drops the cursor and shows its position and its bearing and distance from the boat. Set how long a long press takes in Settings › Cockpit › Long press.
Limits
The card describes charted objects. Ships and other boats on AIS are drawn on the chart but do not open a card. See Own ship, AIS and laylines.
Depths come from the charts on this phone. Where you have not downloaded official charts, the card has no depth to give. See Get charts for your area.
