Prepare a project

Work down the project screen, from readiness to sharing, and arm the plan you will sail.

Everything about one outing is on one screen. Open the project from Projects. Under its name and date is Go sailing, then the sections, in the order you usually work through them before the start: Readiness, Course, Boat, Weather, Routing, Plan to sail, Crew and sharing and Tracker.

Readiness

Readiness answers one question: if the link went now, would you have what you need on the phone? It looks only at what is on the device, and it checks five things: Charts, Weather, Route, Position and Polar. The top line sums them up:

  • Ready to go offline
  • Usable, with something to check
  • Something needed offline is missing
  • Not checked yet

Each line has a badge whose shape and color both change, so you can read it in red light.

When a check comes up short, the fix is right under it:

  • Charts: Get charts for the route opens the chart library for the course.
  • Weather: Download weather for the route, or Request by satellite mail when you have no internet.
  • Route: Route and arm a plan opens routing for the project.
  • Polar: Polars opens your polar library.
  • Position: a fix comes from the phone's GPS or the boat's instruments (Boat › Connections).

Check again runs the checks once more. You can also pull the list down to refresh it.

Course

Course is a route from the chart. Pick it from the list, and the line below gives the number of marks and the length in nautical miles.

To make one, press Draw or edit on the chart. The Chart tab opens with Routes over it. Press Drop waypoints by tapping the chart and tap each mark in order, then New route from waypoints. Back on the project, choose the new route under Course.

If the project is filed into a web project, the web project's courses sync to the chart's routes, so a course drawn on the web is already in the list.

Boat

With a web project, choose the Boat. Its polar comes with it. Without one, the boat's name shows as it is set on the phone.

Polar shows the one routing will use. Press it to open the polar library and pick another.

Weather

Newest names the most recent forecast held on the phone and how old it is. If there is none, the section says No forecast held for this project yet.

  • Weather on the chart opens the Chart tab with the weather panel, where you download for the area you are looking at.
  • Forecast along the way opens the same panel at its forecast table. It needs a forecast held.
  • Model skill opens the model skill screen.

Routing

Press Route this project. The routing screen opens with the project's course already chosen. Press Route from here, now to solve. Once there is an answer, the row reads Routing: last result ready.

To make the answer the plan, type a name under Keep it and press Arm as plan. The result is saved as a route on the chart and becomes the project's plan. Without a name it is called Plan.

Plan to sail

This is the route the crew commits to. Once armed it shows Armed, the route's name and the time it was armed. Disarm clears it.

You do not have to route first. Arm a chart route arms any route on the chart, such as the course itself.

The armed plan is what Go sailing navigates by default.

Crew and sharing

  • Share live sets how long the shore can follow you: Off, 6 hours, 1 day, 3 days, 7 days or 14 days. It needs a project filed into a web project.
  • Race rules while sailing turns race rules on when you go sailing. They refuse shore messages, briefings and pushed routes while you sail.
  • Visible to the project while racing, for a race only, lets the web project see you while you race.
  • Race rules log, Position beacon text, MapShare track and MapShare feeds are here too.

Crew, roles and shore alerts are managed on the web project. Crew and roles on the web opens it.

Tracker

If the race's tracker is attached to the web project, this section names the race and counts the boats. Attach it on the web; the app shows it here and on the chart.

Next: Go sailing.
