Arm a route and navigate it

Make a route the project's plan, steer it mark by mark, and stop when you are done.

Navigating a route means the cockpit steers to its next mark: the route strip on the chart, the bearing and distance on the Helm, and the laylines all follow it. Arming a route makes it the project's plan, the route the crew commits to before the start.

Arm a plan in a project

Two ways:

  • A computed route. After Route from here, now, type a Name under Keep it and tap Arm as plan. The line under it confirms: Armed "Plan" as the project's plan. The route is also added to the chart's routes.
  • A chart route. On the project, under Plan to sail, open Arm a chart route and pick one.

The project then shows the route under Armed, with when it was armed, and Disarm to take it off.

Start navigating

  • When you go sailing. The Go sailing sheet's Navigate picker starts on the armed plan, marked (plan). See Go sailing.
  • From the Routes sheet. Tap Chart, then Routes and waypoints. On a route, tap Activate and slide to confirm. The boat joins the route at its nearest leg.
  • A single waypoint. Under Waypoints, tap Go to and slide. On the chart, a charted object's card has Go to too.
  • A computed route, underway. Under Keep it, tap Navigate this, or Arm and navigate in a project. It is saved as a route and becomes the active one at once.
  • The armed plan, underway. On the project, under Now sailing, tap Navigate the plan.

Activating and going to need a slide so that a stray tap never changes where you are steering. Five seconds without the slide cancels.

While you navigate

The route strip at the bottom left of the chart shows the next mark's name, its bearing and its distance. Where space is short it drops the bearing first and never cuts the numbers.

On the Routes sheet, Active shows the route and Next: the mark you are steering to.

  • Previous and Next step the target back or on a mark, each with a slide.
  • The project's Now sailing section shows Navigating, Next mark and Distance, and warns when you are navigating a route other than the armed plan.

Stop navigating

On the Routes sheet, under Active, press and hold Stop navigating for two seconds. The route stays in your list.

Limits

Only one route is navigated at a time. Activating another replaces it. Go to needs a boat position.
