Offwind is split by what you are doing, not where you are. Plan is for preparing, configuring and reviewing. It uses standard iPhone lists and works with or without a connection. Sail is the cockpit: large numbers, a chart and controls sized for wet hands.
You never pick a mode. Sail is up while a passage is under way, and Plan is up the rest of the time. Go sailing takes you from one to the other, and Finish passage brings you back.
The Plan tabs
Plan has a tab bar along the bottom with five tabs.
- Projects. Your races and passages. The next one gets a card at the top with its countdown, how ready you are to lose the link, and Go sailing. Below it are Quick sail, the Upcoming projects and the ones already Sailed. New project is the + at the top.
- Chart. The planning chart. It shows the project you are looking at, with its course, routes and weather layers on it. The project's name sits in the top corner. The chart library is in the chart's menu.
- Log. Every recording on the phone, and Import for tracks from other devices.
- Boat. Instruments (connections, derived fields and output, raw capture), Performance (your polars), Devices on board (the boat group and pairing) and Satellite hardware (an Iridium modem and satellite modem registration).
- Settings. Your account and track upload, display, units, cockpit and spoken preferences, recording, routing, Connectivity and storage, and help.
A Practice section at the top of Projects opens Sail trim.
The Sail bar
Sail has its own bar, with four items: Helm, Race, Route and More.
- Helm is the chart and the data pages.
- Race is the start, the line, the timer and the legs.
- Route is the project you are sailing, with the live sections first. With no project, it is the router, ready to route from where you are.
- More holds Open Plan and Finish passage at the top, then Safety, Link, Log, Settings, Sail trim, Race committee and Help.
Settings is the same screen on both sides. So is the project: the one you prepare in Plan is the one under Sail's Route.
Going back to Plan while you sail
Offshore, the navigator plans at the chart table while the boat sails. More › Open Plan opens Plan without stopping anything: recording, navigation and sharing keep running. See Plan while you sail.
Closing the app
Closing Offwind from the app switcher ends navigation. Whether a recording survives depends on Settings › Recording › Keep recording after the app is closed. When it is on, the track keeps recording and resumes by itself. When it is off, closing the app ends the recording too.
A recording started some other way, for example from the watch, is treated as a quick sail, so the cockpit opens to show it.
