Offwind for iPhone

Sail against the plan and reroute

See how far off and behind the plan you are, and choose when the app should suggest or run a reroute.

Once you navigate a route the phone computed, the app keeps its schedule: where the boat should be at each moment. Underway, it measures you against that and tells you when it is time to route again.

Against the plan

Open the router underway: Wx then Route on the chart, or Reroute from here on the project. The Against the plan panel comes first:

  • Off the plan. How far to port or starboard of the planned track you are, or On the plan.
  • Schedule. For example 38 min behind, 2.3 h ahead, or On schedule.
  • Arrival. The arrival at this pace, beside the plan's own.

Under them, the plan's name and when it was routed. Before the plan's departure it says when the plan departs; without a fix it says Waiting for a position fix.

On the chart, a dot shows where the plan has the boat now, joined to your own boat by a line.

Reroute triggers

Tap Reroute triggers to choose what prompts a new route. Each is off until you set it.

  1. A newer forecast is held. A newer run has arrived on the phone.
  2. Off the plan by more than. 1, 2, 5, 10 or 20 nm.
  3. Every. 3, 6, 12 or 24 h.
  4. Reroute automatically. Off: a trigger is suggested in the panel and in a banner, once. On: a trigger starts Route from here at once, no more often than the cooldown, and within the battery and heat limits.

When a trigger fires, the panel shows Reroute suggested with the reason, for example 2.0 nm off the plan, and what to do: Route from here, now solves on the newest held forecast. If it cannot run yet, it says why after Waiting:.

Reroute

Tap Route from here, now. The new result appears beside the plan. Nothing changes what you are steering until you choose it: check it, then tap Arm and navigate, or Navigate this without a project. See Check a route before you use it.

Limits

Automatic reroutes never change the route you are navigating. Only routes computed on the phone or the server carry a schedule; a route you drew yourself has none, so the panel does not appear for it.
